Dad's special time

Just pointing out dad's special times in life. Not just fathers day

Dad’s special time, Father’s Day, that has been classed as a father’s time to shine and it’s his day but the truth of it is that fathers have so much more special time than recognized by onlookers. What most non-parents don’t realize is that the moments where children are upset dads get to be heroes

The little moments that many forget to look at have become special times for fathers. Fathers that watch their children take their first steps, hear the first word, those are special times. But the most important is that when they are heroes to their children. The simple things that seem silly to adults but, not to the kids.

Fathers quite often have the task of relieving fears of monsters in the closet, chasing away the boogey man. Or checking under the bed, or finding the lost teddy right at bed time. Those silly things are when fathers shine of pride to be the hero of their child.

The hero of the daughter that has skinned her knee is the man that carries her into the house and puts a bandage on it and gives it a kiss, her father. He protects, and encourages things that a mother can’t. He provides a sense of security that mothers want to provide but can’t. The father that teaches his son to use a bat and hits a home run, will always be a hero to his child forever.

Even when the children are all grown up, their father is still that hero. But at that point it is because he gives advice and supports. There is never anyone that is that big of a hero in any child’s eyes. Daddy, Dad, Pop, Abba, Papa, Sir in some cases, there is so much that makes these men shine. There is so much that they see that no one else sees. They see the simple things that protect, relieve, encourage, and guide their children. For the people around that happens to be the father. That is the special time that fathers have and deserve.

This article brought a tear to my eye, thinking of my husband. Great dads need to be celebrated. Although I believe men and women should be equal, that is not always the case in raising children. Many men don't change diapers, do laundry, cook, clean, play with the kids, adore their wives... My dad did and so does my husband. I feel very fortunate.

Women normally marry men that are like their father. Whether we admit it or not. My dad is a mechanic that is affectionate and loving, more often than not misunderstood in his sterness. That's what I married, for the most part that's what I dated. I found great joy knowing that I gave myself a huge gift of marrying a man like my father because I know that when my children get older they are going to be loved.
