Creative Gift Ideas for Father's Day

Suggestions for great gifts to buy your Dad for Father's Day.

Mention a Father's Day gift idea and what is the first thing that comes to mind? For most it is a tie. Toss the tie aside and buy a unique gift for the special father on your list with a little imagination and creativity.

In order to come up with a creative gift idea for dad, make a list of activities, hobbies or other things that your father enjoys. Think in broad terms. Does he like to read? Does he like sports? Does he enjoy cooking? By doing this exercise, you should be able to pick up a few ideas from this. The next step is to establish a budget. How much do you want to spend on the gift? Remember, a great gift doesn't always have to cost a great deal of money, it just usually requires some thought and planning. If it is a bigger item, consider involving your siblings or if the children are small, make it a family project.

Gift certificates are usually a welcome idea. Does your father like tools? How about a gift certificate for his favorite hardware store? You could put it in a toolbox. A gift certificate allows Dad to pick out the items that he needs without you doing the guesswork. Sports stores are also a great idea to get a gift certificate for. This way dad can add to his golf clubs or whatever equipment that he needs for his particular favorite sport.

What about a themed gift idea? Does dad like to barbeque? Perhaps you can get him the fixings for a tasty steak dinner or maybe new utensils for the barbecue. Or perhaps you could take dad out for a great steak dinner at his favorite restaurant.

Gifts that most dads (and moms) like are things that are home made from their young children. What about professionally framing some of your child's art work? Or writing a poem and framing it for dad? You can purchase inexpensive picture frames from a craft store and decorate it with small items that both interest him and would fit on the frame. Items such as a coke bottle cap, a hockey card, a golf tea and a nail can be glued to the frame and a poem placed inside. You could consider making a card or a wall hanging that lists why you think dad is special. This can be framed or put in a plaque to keep forever.

If you no longer live at home with your father, one nice idea might be to plan to spend the day with him doing something that he likes to do, such as golfing or fishing. You might want to consider a theme gift such as sport tickets and gear from his favorite team or money for food and beer during the game.

In regards to creative gift ideas, whatever you do for Father's Day, if you keep your dad in mind along with his interests and hobbies and give him something that you know he will enjoy, it will be a gift that your father will treasure always.

It was a good idea that you wrote this article. I agree with everything you said. Sometimes people just don't know what to get. Some fathers have everything. But little things mean a lot.
