With summer here concerned parents will want the child to break away from the school routine and enjoy their summer holidays. But they will also want to ensure the safety of the surroundings and conditions of the place they are going to stay. There are a number of parameters for the parent to consider before shipping a child away especially if the kid has had no previous experience away from home and is not used to being surrounded by strangers etc.
- First the parent should check the credentials of the camp. Has it been opened for many years? Does it have a good reputation? Is there a variety of programs which will occupy the child's interest especially when it is a rainy day?
- The parent should check the facilities to see what they are like. Are the bunks in repair? What kind of mattress is the child going to be sleeping on? Is there an infirmary with a full time nurse who is equipped to deal with emergencies? The later is especially important if the child has an allergy or respiratory ailment that needs to be addressed.
- Are activities organized so that the person gets a balanced program? The parent will want to check the program and also see that certain elements are in place for the child's safety as well. This means making sure there is a lifeguard present when the children swim at a lake front, that there are first aid kits around the camp and that they are also equipped with fire extinguishers.
