Planning affordable, fun, family outings is no problem. Check out the options on this list and get going!
Go To Your Local Playground
This is probably the quickest and easiest thing to do. Don't forget to put that book down and turn off your phone. Play with your kids. Time with you will be more valuable, fun and memorable than any theme park!
Check Out Your Local Park
Take in the wildlife, plants and insects. Go on a local safari. Look for footprints and guess who made them. Skip rocks in the water and stroll along the paths with an open eye.
Tip: To find the parks near you just search the Internet.
Take In Historical Sites
With another Internet search you'll find you won't have to travel far to learn a bit of history and have fun doing it. Do a little research before hand about the history of the place or places you'll be visiting, and tell your kids about it en route.
Creative Play Tip: Pretend you're time-travelers, going back in time to do important research.
Check Out Local Museums
Find free activities or go on days you can come by donation.Around us we can visit the Philadelphia Art Museum on Sundays for a donation of our choice (and that fits our budget) or do things like tour the Kimmel Center for free.
Take A Daytrip to The Beach
If you're within driving distance go to the shore for a day. Don't live near a beach, search for a swimming lake or pool nearby. Pack lunches to save money and use public transportation to save on gas and parking.
Tip: Look for beaches that don't require beach tags or make sure you purchase them. If you go often, it's worth the small investment to enjoy a nice beach.
Check Local Community Calendars
Search for free or affordable events. There's always local organizations or churches hosting free (or very affordable) events, especially around holidays. We've been to egg hunts, Halloween and harvest events, Living History Days, music and wine festivals, and free plays in the park. There's a lot out there to provide you and your family with some memorable experiences.
Go Camping
Paying a small fee per night for a campsite is much more affordable than hotel costs and camp food (hotdogs, hamburgers, anything you can cook on a grill or over a fire, granola bars, cereal, sandwiches and snacks) are much cheaper then restaurant meals! Enjoy the experience of “roughing it.” Let your kids take in the outdoors and go on adventures.
Fun, family outings on a budget are not hard to find or take. So what are you waiting for, get started on some quality family time.
