Back to school is right around the corner; it is time for Moms that stay at home to have the leaving the nest syndrome for a little bit. It is also a time that is very hectic for the first two weeks of school, trying to get the schedules in line and the morning routine in place. Some of the children around here each take different buses to different schools and what is really sad is that some of the schools do not offer bus service to their students anymore, it cost too much.
Castro Valley, Ca schools in the bay area stopped providing transportation about 4 years ago, may be longer, they give you a city bus schedule and tell you to work it out. Bus service is provided for Special needs children only.
It shocks me when I hear of this or experience it, we are putting our 8 year olds on a city bus hoping they know how to get to school and that it is a safe route, to me that is nonsense and most parents can not afford to take the time off to take the children to school since schools here in California keeps starting later and later and if you have three children going to three different schools you may be running around until 930 AM.
Now let's talk about the fees for the busing if your child is lucky to ride a bus, each child has to pay the same fees, that is a lot of money and they should provide discounts if you have more then one riding a bus.
I am sure many of us remember that riding the bus was part of going to school along with the arts and the extra school activities, now they want us to pay for everything and then some, They have no problem in telling you that your child has missed a day, they have no problem in telling you that your child was given detention for the most silliest of things, however they can't protect our children while they are on campus.
The system needs a complete re-haul and needs it fast, right now the children are the ones suffering with the lack of direction provided in the class rooms and the labels that the teaching staff puts on the children and yes teachers you can have your blood boil while reading this, however the truth always does hurt, I am not saying there are not teachers that do give 110% however the margin is very slim.
I have to remind the school district that they are not the parent's and therefore they do not dictate to me on how to raise my child or to tell me that this is the way it will be done.
I think what made me make sure the school district understood that they just teach my child, is when I was smoking a cigarette (I stopped smoking cold turkey 2 years ago) and my then 2nd grader walked up to me and said “mommy your doing drugs!” I was like excuse me, and who told you that nonsense? He said “ my teacher said that if you smoke cigarettes then you are drug user and need to go to jail”, I was on the phone quicker then daylight, no teacher has any right to push their beliefs on their students.
I have had other parent's come up to me and say “we were told we had to do this by the school” I look in shock at these educated adults, then I have to start to preach, and ask them “ Does the school pay your bills and buy your food? Did the school give birth to your children? It then shocks me to watch them think about this and then say “No, they did not and do not”, I have done my job, what have we been reduced to when we can't raise our children and the schools want to tell us how to raise them?
So yes it is that time of year again for our children to go back to school and to try to be the best they can be without being torn apart by the teachers at their school, the pressure from other students is tough enough, kind words from the teachers is always a plus.
Then it brings me to this, if a teacher cannot be nice to their students, then the teacher needs to go get a new career.
