Are We Following In Our Parents' Footsteps?

Why we need to change the way we do things.

This article prompts me to write today. Briefly the blog is a well written article about how senior citizens can save money. This whole saving money thing confuses me as currently I am involved on a course about wealth creation. I also read the bible which preaches prosperity and abundance. So in a nutshell I believe in abundance and prosperity for all who truly seek it. I do not believe that we are here to suffer or to eek out an existence. I do not believe that we are here to work hard all our lives, break out backs to get our kids a good education and then when we retire have to scale down and live in the poor house. Yet when I look around that is a lot of what I see.

I take my father for example, he is 75 years old he retired as financial director for a large corporation, has a pension and medical aid. His house is fully paid up (as it should be) yet he still has to work three days per week to survive financially. His pension is not enough to pay his living expenses. This is not an isolated case I am sure. I am sure that many of you who are I my age group who have retired parents have similar stories to tell. The only positive for me is that it has prepared me for my future and that of my children. It has alerted me to setting myself up that when I am in my 70's I will not HAVE to work; but will work if I choose to.

As mentioned earlier the bible talks of life in abundance and I know that if you speak to business and life coaches and start giving them a woe is me story they will come down on you like a ton of bricks. The thing is that they are right; there is a huge world out there with enough resources and people to make abundant living for all of us. Why is it then that when looking around there are so many people living in the poor house? People running on a treadmill like hamsters? What is it that we as society are missing? The experts tell us that 5-10% of the world control the wealth. Is 95% of the world stupid, lazy, ignorant or a combination? What is the missing link? I would love some feedback as I would love to get myself and others to a place of limitless abundance.
