Amazing Educational Shows That Will Help Your Child Learn to Read

In today's society, where television is claimed to be unhealthy, parents try hard to limit their child's time in front of the TV.

When parents do choose to allow TV time for their child, they prefer that the programming have at least some educational value in order to avoid any possibility of guilt from having allowed the television to invade their home and their child's minds.

The following programs are sure to please the parents by providing appropriate educational value while entertaining your child. Your child will learn valuable lessons without even realizing that their minds are being filled with educational concepts that will not soon be forgotten.

Word World

Word World is filled with many interesting attractions. This world is inhabited by Duck, Frog, Bear, Pig, Sheep, Fish, Ant and Dog. Each character is literally made of the letters that spell their name, teaching your child to identify words with letters. Each episode follows a story about one of the characters and his interaction with his friends. During an episode, the characters face problems and solve them by building new words to fulfill the needs of the characters. Words, of course, are built by placing the appropriate letters side by side and pushing them together to create the desired object.

With a catchy “build a word” tune and funny characters, this show is sure to entertain your little ones for hours. They won't even realize that they are learning how to read until it is far too late for them to snub this show. Your child will learn all about building words and what words really are, as well as a few well timed lessons about friendship and working together to get things done.

Leap Frog's Letter Factory

Meet Tad, his big brother Leap and his big sister Lily. Tad is still very young and has not yet learned his alphabet when his father takes him and his siblings off to the talking letter factory. The talking letter factory, as one might assume, makes letters that know their own sounds and say that sound out loud. The factory is where the letters are made and distributed into a talking letter dictionary. Mr. Websley is making a visit to the factory for a presentation of talking letters and it's up to Leap and Lily to set up the presentation. Tad, being a little brother, just seems to get in the way so he sulks off only to find Professor Quigley who promptly takes Tad on a tour of the factor. On his tour around the factory, Tad learns all about letters and how they make their very own sounds. After spending a day wondering around the factory in order to stay out of the way, Tad is able to tell the world all about the alphabet and what the letters say, proving that he is not too young to learn about his letters.

The Letter Factory is filled with amusement for young and old. The theme song that reinforces the letter sounds is heard throughout the show and often requested for sing-a-long time throughout the day. You'll find that your kids will quickly learn to recognize their letters and the sounds those letters make. This skill is essential for early reading skills and the Letter Factory teaches the skill in such a way that even the youngest child will catch on.

Leap Frog's Word Factory

In the talking word factory, Tad continues learning about letters and how letters are used to build words. Tad needs to complete a form for a TV contest and needs help writing his words, so the kids take a trip to the factory to get Professor Quiqley to help Tad learn how words are made. This video builds on what has already been learned in the Letter Factory. Soon your child will be reading short words by sounding out their letter sounds.

Leap Frog's Word Factory 2

In this episode, the kids learn all about long vowel sounds, silent letters, and blended letters. The Word Factory 2 is a continuation on learning how to read words with the same level of entertainment and amusement as those before.

Leap Frog's Storybook Factory

In the storybook factory, Tad and his friends are busy putting on a play when Mr. Websley overhears them. After reminiscing for a moment about how much fun it was to read children's stories when he was young, Mr. Websley decides to make talking storybooks.

The show follows the production of a popular storybook, with Tad as the narrator. This show teaches kids how words are used to create sentences and stories. One important point in this story is how it focuses on the proper use of punctuation and voice animation. This is the final step in the series of Leap Frog movies that will help you teach your child how to read on his own. There is also a hidden lesson built into the process about how it is necessary to work hard in order to accomplish your goals.
