If you or someone you know would like to adopt a child but have never pursued it because of the financial aspect, let me tell you a few secrets. I believe the secrets are not general knowledge because there are many people among us who do bad things. My hope is that the good will outweigh the bad after the secrets are heard and that what I am about to tell you will help to make the world a better place.
Adopting children in the United States is free if you go through any state program and there are plenty of kids to go around. The U.S. is so desperate to find good homes for these children that they pay a $600 per month, per child, boarding fee. You continue to receive this boarding fee even after the adoption is final and will continue to receive it until the child turns 18. You can opt to take a state insurance card for the child in place of the $600 if you chose to do so. Did I mention that the government will also pay for the child's college education?
The first step is to contact your state department of health and human resources and sign up for foster to adopt class. You do not have to do foster care but you do have to take the classes and have a home study completed. Once this has been completed, you will be certified to adopt a child from any state. The children can be viewed on any state web site and you can read short bios. Some of the younger children are not posted on-line for very long as there are often times so many requests for information that the social workers and home finders have a difficult time answering every request. Once you have completed the classes and have an approved home study, you may be contacted regarding children that are available but who will not be posted on the sites.
Children who do not have parents are considered "Special Needs." Some of the children do have mild to severe physical and mental disabilities but there are many children who have little or no issues at all. You choose the age, sex, nationality and whatever situations you are willing to accept. There is a lot of paperwork involved and the classes are designed to show you the worst situations.
It isn't an easy process but it isn't a hard process either. If you chose to adopt a child with disabilities, the $600 per month is typically increased to reflect any additional money you may need to care for the child.
Share this story with every good person you know. Good people make good parents and these kids desperately need a chance. You can adopt a child, free of charge, get a monthly boarding fee and also send the child to college for free. The secret is out, good people unite!
