This routine is based on both parents sharing the task, especially for dads who are out to work all day as the split of tasks allows dad to enjoy some quality bonding time with baby.
This routine works best for baby up to 6 months where they are sleeping in their cot/Moses basket in the parents room and takes approx 30 minutes including feeding time.
- Mum - Get everything ready upstairs.
- Place baby towel in bathroom (on radiator in the winter)
- Squirt a little baby bath into the bath or with baby sponge and bath temperature indicator. Do not run bath at this stage.
- Turn on lullaby music in nursery.
- Lay out sleeping bag; sleep suit, vest and clean nappy in reach of the changing station.
- Pull curtains in the master bedroom, turn on night light and monitor.
- Dad - Bring baby up and get them ready for the bath in the nursery whilst mum - run bath.
- Dad - Bring baby to bathroom and both parents bath baby for approx 5-10 minutes.
- Mum - Lay out towel in bathroom and dad - place baby in towel and mum - scoop up baby in the towel and take them back to the nursery.
- Dad - Empty bath and go to the kitchen to warm up baby's bottle.
- Mum - Dry baby, apply body lotion and dress baby ready for bed.
- Dad - Return with milk and sit in the nursery chair, mum - hand dad baby.
- Dad - Feed baby, read bedtime story and settle baby, mum - turn down music whilst story being read.
- When baby becomes sleepy (hands on face and fidgety) dad - carry baby into bedroom and place in cot/Moses basket.
- Both parents - Kiss baby goodnight, turn off night light and leave baby to settle and sleep.
