It is the excitement of doing something different, of being in the sun or even in the rain, sometimes. It is when a man can show off his talents to family, friends, neighbours, as he cooks, and converses, smoking a cigar or drinking a cold beer! Really though, it is a fun and enjoyable time spending it with family and friends away from our busy schedule, making it a real opportunity to get to know each other and make new friends.
The food is a real delight - the taste of the charcoaled seasoned meat like the chicken or pork chops, is delicious in flavour. The soft succulent sweetness of the roasted potatoes in hot and unwrapped foil melt in your mouth and the steamed fish seasoned and covered in olive oil is light and fluffy. The fantastic salad displaying an abundance of colour is rich in flavour and refreshing under the hot sun. The dips add a Mediterranean feel with the olives and the pitta bread. The food is excellent and the weather helps make it taste better along with the wine, beer or the soft drink on the table.
This is just a type of barbecue and one that I love. We all do barbecues in different ways, and they are all as good with the same goal in mind and that is to have a relaxing time with lots of fun and laughter, with those around you.
So, have a fab time and remember to smile for the camera as it clicks its way around the group. A memory to remember!
