Have you ever been at a party where someone out of the whole group of people stood out? Not because of there looks or how intoxicated they are, but because socially they involved everyone there. This article is going to help you become that person. In a world were popularity defies, and your social status is dependent on happiness, I believe its important the development of the social skills you will need to succeed in life.
In order to be the life of the party, you have to find what you and the guest have in common, and apply that to conversation. For example where it is election time, that is a good topic that everyone has an opinion about. Another good example, since global warming is a headline to every news source in the country, use your knowledge of that, combined with a witty sense of humor to win the hearts of your guest over.
Another way would be to make fun of yourself. I know what your thinking, that doesn't sound good at all. But do it in a good natured, fun way. For example if your dressed a little less formal at the party then everyone else, comment about your choice of clothes, or your financial status in a fun joking way. Making jokes about yourself, or current events makes people attracted to you because they realize that your comfortable with your personality and appearance. Winning over your audience is the key to be successful socially. Just remember not to be too cruel, of they will believe your not comfortably with yourself.
Next listen, ask a lot of questions about the people you are talking to. Ask about there family, there clothing, there house and my personal favorite, there partner. When they respond don't just act interested, listen. Be interested or else there going to know your only asking to fit in. Generally people love talking about themselves, therefore it is the best topic of any conversation. People will think higher of you if your interested in them.
Finally, find something that connects that group or individual. For instance if your host is wearing a shirt with a band on it, say something like “so you like so and so”? Use what knowledge you have of the band and make conversation about it. Knowledge is the key in this situation because people are attracted to your knowledge. Knowledge about things other people are interested in is always a good icebreaker. And if your talking to someone, and they don't seem interested, change the topic. Boring people is the worst thing you could do at a party.
