Throwing any kind of party isn't that easy, you have the invitations, decorations, food, and you have the plan it all out so everything doesn't end up a disaster.
- First, plan it out. Make a list of how many and what guests you are going to invite, what foods to pick (so many choices for cake out there), what decorations, and activities (games, movies, etc.) and, of course, when the party starts and when the party ends.
- Second, invitations. You can either buy some at the store or make some at home by folding construction paper in half. Add your own little messages, and make sure to include the 5 Ws:
- Who or what the party is for
- What kind of party
- When the party starts and ends
- Where the party is
- Why? (Birthday, holiday, etc.)
You can also include an RSVP date (optional) but make sure to also put a phone #. If you are including an RSVP date, then make sure you set the RSVP date about 1 week before the party and send out the invitations about 1½-2 weeks before the party. That way, you have a pretty good idea of how many people are coming and you have a lot more time to decide how much food you're going to buy for everybody. If you're not including a RSVP date then send out the invitations about 1-1½ weeks ahead of time.
- Next-the food. First make sure that no one coming to the party has any allergies. If anyone does, then make a list of all of the allergies and keep it with you when you are shopping or preparing the food. If you're making dinner or lunch for the party (make sure to include in your invitations if your guests will be having a meal or just a snack), keep in mind that the simpler, the better. Reserve the fancy dinner recipes for special occasions, because at a party, usually, everybody's going to be too busy talking with their friends, having fun. Ordering some pizza and buying some pop and other snacks like cookies would be your easy way out of taking too much time making your own food. If you want to make your own food then, like I said before, make it simple.
- Decorations are optional when you are having a party. If you are having a sleepover, decorating probably won't be needed. Nonetheless, picking out decorations and putting them up is always fun. Here are some ideas:
- Banners ('Happy Birthday', "Merry Christmas", etc.).
- Blow up some balloons and hang them around the house, doesn't have to be helium inside
- Drape tinsel, ribbon, and streamers around the house for a festive look
- For a themed party, maybe some matching tablecloths and dinnerware and possibly a piñata
- Last, but not least, entertainment. Rent a movie, get a piñata, maybe even some board games. This part should be easy. If you really know your friends, then you really know what they like. Whether it's pin the tail on the donkey or watching a movie, entertainment is the easiest of throwing a party, unless you don't know your guests
