How to Relax Before a Party

Does the thought of attending a big party make you a bit nervous? Here's how to calm your nerves before a party so you can really shine.

You have an invitation to a summertime party where there will be lots of important people you'd like to network with. It's going to be a swanky one with lots of food, music, and conversation. Naturally, you're a bit nervous before such a grand event. What can you do to soothe your jangled nerves? Here are some tips on how to relax before a party:

Prepare early

The most important thing you can do before a party to relieve some of the stress of preparation is to plan your outfit several weeks before. That way you have the time to be sure it fits properly and you have the appropriate accessories. If you'll be wearing hose, buy several pairs in case you snag one while getting ready. Plan your outfit down to the last detail and place it in a separate area of your closet with a covering over it so it won't get soiled. Don't forget to choose your accessories and shoes.

Exercise on the morning of the party

Exercise is an excellent stress reliever. Get out and take a brisk, thirty minute walk or a run if you're in good shape. It takes about that long to get a significant release of endorphins, the stress relieving, feel good chemicals. Don't try to go too far or hard if you're not in shape. You don't want to sustain an injury or a muscle strain before a party.

Take a nap in the afternoon before the party

You'll want to be alert and refreshed when you walk into the party. The best way to ensure that you're perky is to get enough sleep the night before and follow up with an hour nap in the afternoon before the party. You'll most likely be staying out late and the extra sleep will help keep your energy level high.

Take a soothing bath and sip a glass of herbal tea

Take a long, soothing, fragrant bath several hours before the party to calm your nerves. Relax your neck on a bath pillow, close your eyes, and sip a cup of sweet, herbal tea. Breathe deeply and let you mind go blank. After your nap and soak in the tub, you'll feel ready to tackle anything.

Listen to classical music while you prep

Surround yourself with the dulcet tones of beautiful music as you prepare yourself. Classical music is one of the most effective at calming nerves and relieving stress as is new age music. When you apply your makeup, pretend you're an artist painting a facial portrait to the tunes of Vivaldi or Mozart. Hum along. Feel your stress and apprehensions melt away.

Give yourself plenty of time.

Start your preparations early and allow yourself plenty of time to get ready. Being rushed creates additional stress you don't need before a party.

Now it's time to enjoy yourself. You should feel relaxed and ready to tackle anything. Enjoy yourself!
