Set a provisional date and decide on the venue or venues for the ceremony and reception. Decide on guest numbers. Choose your bridesmaid and male attendants/best man. Book the venues and make sure you have all the information you need about any legal stuff.

Six Months to Go
Choose and buy your dress, accessories and clothes for others involved in the ceremony. Decide on the flowers and book now.
Five Months to Go
Choose your rings and devise a gift list if you are having one. If you want to travel under your married name get the forms sorted now.
Four Months to Go
Get your invites printed and sent, with any directions for people travelling, plus accommodation guide. Any deals you can work out with local hotels or bed and breakfasts will be much appreciated.
Order the rest of the wedding stationery - order of service, menus, place cards, thank you cards. See your hairdresser to discuss/practise your styling, as well as making your booking.
Three Months to Go
Arrange your hen and stag parties. Look over your paperwork and start arranging for your name change if you are changing yours.
Two Months to Go
Chase up any non replies to your invites. Check all arrangements and bookings.
Final Month
Do your seating plans, write any speeches, buy presents for helpers, bridesmaids, etc.
Arrange and do your rehearsal and try on your dress. Get currency for the honeymoon.
On the Day
Get up early! Eat a lovely breakfast and take your time so there's no last minute panic.
