4th of July Barbecue Party for Kids

This is a great holiday that brings together children and adults.

These parties can be held in your backyard or even at the park. Remember some parks may require reservations ahead of time. Let the kid's have fun by making some party invitations. They can draw stars and flags, fireworks. They can tie or tape sparklers also to the invitations.

Your decorations should be fun but also sparkle with that 4th of July flare. You can buy napkins with stars and strips on them.

Along with inexpensive plastic serving trays to hold all snacks. These can be purchased inexpensively at most dollar stores. Add some red, white and blue streams with mini U.S. flags. Do not forget the glow sticks. Children seem to take a lot of pleasure with these. Younger children might prefer pin wheels instead. Do not forget the sparklers. Please remember to keep them out of children's hands. They can still be dangerous.

Do some fun activities for the kids. Have each child bring a wagon, bicycle, drum, ETC. Provide them with paper, balloons, even small flags if you wish.Have them decorate the item for a fun filled parade. Children can have rely races by passing small flags to one another. You can hold egg and spoon races and water balloon tosses too!

This being a 4th of July barbecue party for kids serve kid friendly food that is fun for them. Hot dogs and hamburgers always win in this category. Different types of chips. Ice cream floats are a delicious and fun way for kids to cool off. Serve them a fruit salad in a hollowed out watermelon half. Decorate a white sheet cake to look like our flag. Use blueberries for the stars and strawberries for the stripes. You can also serve some cool side salads like potato and pasta, or even rainbow coleslaw. Add in some fun stuff like deviled egg boats, almost smores, ladybugs on a stick.

Pass out some party favors to the kids. These party favors can include some sidewalk chalk, small flags, bubbles, sparkles (depending on age of children and parent's discretion), paddle balls, marbles, punch balloons. Once again dollar stores are a great place to find a lot of goodies you will need.

Planning a 4th of July Barbecue for kids is really fairly simple if you just use a few guidelines:

  • Make sure you do the invites in plenty of time for them to be received. However, with the new age, you can use Internet invitations.
  • Not only is this party geared for kids but the adults may just enjoy it as well. So you may want to consider inviting mom and dad too.
  • Make a list of the decorations you want. This will save you lot's of time in the store.
  • Play some patriotic music on a boom box, or stereo.
  • Food menu list. Make sure it is fun but also patriotic.
  • Make sure you have a cooler stocked with ice and soda handy.
  • Games and Children's Activities. Make a list of type of things you think would be fun to do. A lot of great ideas can be found on the Internet.
  • Hold party in afternoon. This way later on you can take the gang to a fireworks display or community event.
  • Remember sunscreen and bug repellent. Have enough on hand.

Most important thing I can think of this holiday season is the use of fireworks by yourself:

Make sure first off that they are legal in your area. Some cities and towns have regulations as to what type of fireworks you may have. Make sure you carefully read the directions on the fireworks. Only let the adults handle them. Do not attempt to re-light any that are malfunctioning.

Do not aim them at people, houses, cars, dry leaves or flammable materials. Always keep water handy in case the fireworks ignite. Dispose of them properly by soaking them in water before throwing in trash containers.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July!
