The Winter Bug Out is on Its Way

Summer is quickly drawing to a close and winter is rapidly descending upon us. It is high time that we give some due consideration to survival during the winter months. I personally had always hoped that if the SHTF, it would happen during the summertime however having a survivalist mind I fully realize that it can happen at just anytime at all.

Summer is quickly drawing to a close and winter is rapidly descending upon us. It is high time that we give some due consideration to survival during the winter months. I personally had always hoped that if the SHTF it would happen during the summertime however having a survivalist mind I fully realize that it can happen at just anytime at all.

Planning any sort of survival exercise in the wintertime is totally different then what we would find if it was accomplished during the warm or hot months. These specific trips that we plan to escape any emergency conditions can add a lot of extra stress when being accomplished in the dead of winter. Whether our venture would take us through the mountains or into the flat areas of the country we will certainly feel the full force of Mother Nature. We may think that our vehicles as well as our bug out bags are properly stocked but the chances are unless we have specifically changed our bags from summer to winter we will find that we are extremely short of necessities.

A few items that would be needed in the mountainous snowy areas would be a good pair of ice fishing boots as well as possibly some ski gear. Your ice fishing boots should prevent you from slipping and sliding across the various ice banks while you are exploring your temporary living area. These will particularly be appreciated on those downhill slopes. You should take along one pair of boots fabricated from some thick, insulated materials as well as equipped with adjustable straps to enable you to keep them snug on your feet. Don't forget that you should stock up on several water bottles so that you are kept well hydrated as you travel along. An insulated water bottle and a coffee press would not hurt to have in the least and will provide you with the warm drinks that you will certainly need to survive.

If the temperatures outside are approaching the sub-zero's you will certainly appreciate the winter apparel and the weather-resistant accessories that you carry with you. It isn't hard to stay warm when you have some goose down jackets or an insulated sleeping bag. When selecting your accessories search for those that are windproof and tear-resistant.

To hold all of your clothing you may consider a multi-functional backpack as well as some bungee cord accessories, with a side water bottle holder pocket and featuring a top load style design. Much of the content is basically up to you but consider the selection from the point of warmth and comfort.
