Survival Guide: Getting Lost in the Woods

Getting lost in the woods can be a serious problem. It does not happen often but you should always be prepared.

Many people can get lost in the woods. This may happen during hunting, fishing, or just by playing in the woods. Not knowing how to survive can get you injured or possibly dead. Knowing these different ways to survive well help you get rescued and live. This information is also good for people that just want to camp in the woods.

Follow these following steps to survive in the woods:

  1. The first step is not to panic. Panicking can get you to do stupid things. These things can get you killed or injured.
  2. The 2nd step is to make sure you are able to build a fire. This can be done with glasses, matches, lighter or by friction. To make a fire by friction you must repeatedly rub to sticks, it is very hard. Having a fire can keep you warm and keep wild animals away from you.
  3. It is important for you to get out of the woods as quickly as you can because there is a lack of food. It is also important not too eat any kind of fruits around you. Those fruits can be very poisonous.
  4. If you really need to eat food, you can only get it if you have a fire. You can only eat other animals. Make sure you dont eat dead animals because they contain thousands of bacteria.
  5. It is important to get out of the woods as quick as you can. So if you walk straight you will eventually get out of the woods. Make sure you do not try getting out of the woods during the night.

An interesting article, but some of the tips in there aren't very well described and thus could lead to misconceptions. For example, if you can positively identify a fruit or take the Universal Edibility Test and determine that it is edible, you can eat it.

If you want a more in-depth look at wilderness survival, check out my article by going to Quazen and searching for Wilderness Survival. (for some reason Triond isn't letting me post a URL)
