When you are moving to a new house, proper precautionary steps should be taken in order to prevent burglars from breaking into your house. Below are a few tips that may help you to protect your home.

  1. Change All the Locks

This is the most important things. When you first move, it is necessary to change all the locks in the house. There is always the possibility of previous tenants and other people still in possession of spare keys into the locks. You are also advising do not tag the keys with the address of your residence.
  2. Replace Doorframes

Replace deteriorated doorframes with new solid wood. A rotted doorframes makes it is easier for the burglar to prise their way in.
  3. Keep Property Well-Lit

As you may be not familiar with the new place, burglar may try to breaks in your house at night. Plug in timer is a good alternative as the lights turn on and off periodically according to your setting. You have to make sure you keep your property well lit especially at key places such as entrances, backdoors, windows and walkways.
  4. Burglar Alarm

Assemble a burglar alarm is the best proactive steps. The most common security sensors indicate the opening of a door or window or detect motion via passive infrared (PIR). Burglar alarm helps you to protect your homes from burglar and allow you to have a sweet dream at night.
  5. Know Your Neighbors

It is important to know who your neighbours are. In early day, it is not necessary to know more details about your neighbour but knowing a bit about your neighbours may helps you to protect your house from burglar. If you are going to be away, inform your trusted friends or neighbours and arrange for them to pick up mail and newspapers. Piles up mail and newspapers are obvious hints you are not at home.
  6. Arriving Home After Vacationing

Before you go in the house, make sure to check that there are no signs of break-in. If you do see such sign, do not enter the house. Call the police immediately.

You might not be able to stop burglar from breaking into your home, but you can take steps to prevent them. Whether you are home alone or on vacay, I believe the tips listed above could help to deter preying eyes.
