Plan Your Escape Route Carefully

Here is an article that I recently wrote concerning escape routes during emergency conditions. If you happen to be like me you want to plan for any type of problem that you may possibly encounter. During a bug out whether it is an actual emergency or a practice drill you will want to make the most of your bug out plan and this includes your escape route as well.

If you happen to be like me you want to plan for any type of problem that you may possibly encounter. During a bug out whether it is an actual emergency or a practice drill you will want to make the most of your bug out plan and this includes your escape route as well.

By definition an escape route is planned to assist us in dealing with vary dangerous situations which we hope will keep our families and ourselves safe from harm. It is actually an alternative plan to remaining in the center of the danger and is our way of avoiding the troubles that may occur.

In an ideal world we would merely need to lay out a route on the map and during a crisis follow it to safety however as you may already know we do not reside in a perfect world. There are many things that can go wrong as we prepare to bug out and we must accept the idea that our best plans may go astray. The point of all this is that we can not take a chance of this happening. When we plan our escape routes we must have alternates as well as alternates for the alternates.

The question foremost in a survivalists mind is just how close can we manage to get to those idea conditions? Is it even a practical goal to strive for?

As with most survivalists the more that we consider the cause and effect of most situations the more complex they tend to become. Escape routes due to their importance is no exception.

It is usually the unpredictable events which cause us the most grief and it is these surprises that we should strive to eliminate. These unpredictable occurrences should be thought out as much as possible. Obtain second opinions or even a third for that matter. Try to imagine every possible scenario that could take place when it becomes your turn to actually bug out. Keep an open mind as you consider all of your options and your planned reactions to the events that may unfold.

As an example, what roads out of town could be closed? What bridges may be shut down due to heavy traffic? Are you more or less isolated? What percentage of the population will be departing the area? If we can come up with enough questions we can safely eliminate the unpleasant surprises.

We must recognize the potential for risk when we plan our escape routes but keep in mind that when we do plan them use good common sense and base your reactions upon intelligent thinking.
