To avoid all the symptoms of a bee sting, try to avoid getting stung in the first place. Here are some simple precautions to take to avoid being stung:
- Stay away from insect nests. If you need to remove one from an area close to your house, use the kinds of bug sprays that have a six foot or more sprayer. If you are allergic to bees, call an exterminator to get rid of any bee nests or hives near your home.
- Don't wear bright colored flowery clothes, the bee could mistake you for a flower and be attracted to you. Also avoid wearing dark, rough clothes. Light colored, smooth fabrics are the best things to wear to avoid being stung.
- Don't wear brightly colored jewelry or hair ribbons or other shiny metal objects that might attract the bees
- Wear insect repellent when you go outside. Put the repellent on your clothes and on any exposed skin.
- Keep your garbage cans covered to avoid attracting the bees, and stay away from other garbage cans where bees are looking for food.
- Keep screens on your open windows and doors to keep the bees from entering your house.
- Always wear shoes outside. Many people are accidentally stung because they stepped on a bee that was minding its own business. Many bees gather food from clover and other flowers that are close to the ground, and some bees even live in the ground. Going barefoot makes your feet a prime target.
- Use caution when cutting or smelling fresh flowers. And carry some bug spray out to the garden in case you run into some angry bees that don't want to leave you alone.
There is no need to stay closed up inside, but use some precaution so that your outdoor fun won't turn into a disaster.
