The place is usually within + or - 5° to °15 Latitude from the equator over the ocean.
The surface temperature of the ocean/sea needs to be 26.5°C or above.
A low air pressure system (depression) with convection currents starts to gather clouds/stormy.
The difference between each cyclones category is the higher the number the more powerful and dangerous the cyclone is.
There will be no power or hospitals available no food or shelter or transport so they wont be able to go any were.
The possible consequences for a cyclone to hit wider Australia would nearly be the same as above but there will be more doctors there then there Is in Gladstone and it's a bigger community so more people to help the consequences will still be no food water or shelter.

Problems facing our family for the weeks to come
One of the problems our family and many others will be facing is having no electricity or security for family or pets.
We will have no communication to phone family that is over seas to let them no that we are alright and not hurt.
Another big problem will be having no transport so you have to walk every were in the water that has flooded.
We will also have no income so that means no money for any thing but the biggest problem I think is we will have no shelter for several weeks to we will have to either stay in a homeless shelter if it hasn't been torn down or live in a tent till we can get our house rebuilt and electricity working again.
Another one is the well being and the health of your family and many others.
Conclusion
I think you can get reliable information before the cyclone on the internet radio or TV but for during the cyclone you cant that's why before the cyclone hits you can research on the internet what to do before during and after the cyclone hits.
I think your family should behave in a carm manor instead of panicking or screaming the more you panic the more you are going to go into shock. So that's why I think you family should stay in the same place during the cyclone instead of running around screaming it is also the safest thing to do just encase some thing comes flying into the window or a tree falls on top of your house
For other information you can call the WA tropical cyclone information line 1-300-659-210 I think that would be the best place for information.
