Change the Batteries in Your Smoke Detectors

Fire alarms, fire escape ladders and home safety.

It won't be long and it will be time to set our clocks back! Remember the old saying spring ahead and fall back? Well it is time for our clocks to fall back an hour soon and with that we should also change our smoke detector batteries. Many deadly home fires happen at night and because the fire detectors didn't go off. You can get a smoke detector for as little as $7.00, that is a small price to pay to save your life and the life of your family. Every home should have at least two, one upstairs and one down stairs. you should test your smoke detectors every month by pushing the test button until you hear the loud noise.

Many smoke detectors run on nine volt batteries but they can also be wired into your home and run on 120 house current. Have a plan just in case you have a fire, make sure all family members know where to meet once they are out of the home, review this plan often until everyone knows what to do and where to meet. If you have a house with an upstairs invest in fire escape ladders. This is a ladder that is light weight and easy to store yet it can save your life in a fire. The ladder attaches to your bedroom window and hangs on the outside of your home. Practice using these ladders by using a window downstairs just to give you an idea what it will be like if you need to use the ladder.

All bedrooms upstairs should have a ladder. Remember once you are out of the burning home do not go back in many people each year loose their lives because they have reentered the home after getting out. Smoke detectors save thousands of lives each year so please if you don't have one get one and if you have them then please check them and test them once a month. Remember to change the batteries when you change your clocks.
