Even if we did not take into consideration situations fashioned by foreign adversaries and deliberated upon only the increased calamities associated with the weather it still adds up to the fact that we must be prepared.
At no other time in our history has this been more relative then it is today. I myself am a survivalist. Survivalists believe in the principle of being prepared for whatever nature or man may toss our way. Survival preparations begin at an early age in life. These initial preparations tend to linger with a person for a significant amount of time as they grow up and start to age. I can think of no other organization which builds the self-assurance and cultivates the skills crucial to ensure survival during emergency times then that of the Boy Scouts. Scouting is well known in American culture as promoting self reliance, loyalty and the ability to think under stress and in emergency conditions.
Headquartered in Irving Texas the scouting program began in 1907 by Robert Baden-Powell. Since its inception it has recruited almost 5 million youths and a little over 1 million adults into its ranks. It is the largest youth organization that has been created in America. The goal of the scouts is to train our young people to become responsible adults and to create a mindset towards self reliance, self confidence, motivation and a positive self esteem towards themselves. These goals are accomplished through the mastery of various outdoor activities and group educational programs.
The influence of scouting is readily noticed in many of our leaders from all walks of life. Eleven out of the twelve astronauts who walked on the Moon were previous Scouts; in fact over 2/3rds of all American astronauts have experiences of some sort in the Scouting area. Most past scouts will readily admit that they have benefited greatly by the training which they received while in the scouting program. Sit down with an ex-scout and listen to their nostalgic memories which they relate of their evenings by the campfires or their individual or group work accomplished in order to earn their merit badges.
I try to encourage children as well as adults to be prepared to take care of yourself should the need ever arise however there are many items for which the scouts have years of training experience under their belts. The training that they provide acts as a foundation for that which I try to expand upon.
These methods developed by the scouts are some of the best survival training available today and provides a firm foundation for which more advanced training can easily be built upon. Scouting creates a positive impact on young boys which in turn positively impacts the community and society. I would recommend that anyone who has children sign them up for this exciting and useful organization. You won't be sorry and your children will appreciate it some day also.
