10 Ways to Get Your Home Ready for Winter

Winter is just around the corner, how will you prepare?

I hate to say it but for those of us who live in the northern hemisphere, winter is coming. In fact it's just around the corner, so it is time to get prepared. Here is my to do list for getting your home ready for winter….And please if I forgot anything add it with your comments….

In no particular order….

  1. Prepare gardens remove dead flowers and plants, plant or remove bulbs
  2. Finish out door projects
  3. Service furnace or clean chimney, if you use either of these
  4. Stock up on wood or oil if either is your heat source
  5. Seal up leaks around plug sockets, windows and doors
  6. Put summer clothing away, wash winter coats, hats, scarves, etc…I also like to wash all the extra blankets, so their fresh when ready to use
  7. Have shovel and salt available
  8. Stock up on distilled water, canned goods, batteries and first aid kit in case of emergency, check fire extinguisher(s)
  9. In large country homes it's a good idea to blanket off rooms you don't use to conserve energy and heat
  10. Car maintenance, check oil, change tires, etc…

Remember to keep warm and safe this coming winter…

Great List. The only addition that comes to mind is Hot Chocolate and a book you will not read until there is at least one foot of snow on the ground : )
