How to change a belt on your Hoover Elite Vacuum
First you must remove the bottom plate . This is done by the tabs that are visible on the bottom plate when you turn over the vacuum . This will allow you to remove the brushroll . Next you want to remove the hood off the vacuum . The easiest way to do this is by inserting a flat tip screwdriver at the back sliding it down between the houseing and the hood and giveing it a twist . Do this on both sides of the vacuum . Then also follow the same proceeduure at the front of the vacuum . This will allow you to see the motor shaft .
Next check your brushroll to make sure that it turns freely . Twist the end caps off to expose the bearings . Many time there is hair or string that needs to be removed . After the hair or string is removed then reassemble your brush roll . Once you have your new belt you are ready to reinstall it on your vacuum . Remember to get the Hoover belt with the last numbers of- 040 .
The first step in reinstalling your new belt is putting the belt around the brushroll, and snapping the bottom plate back on . Then take the flat tipped screwdriver that you removed the hood with and strech the belt back to the motor shaft . This will be quite a strech as the belt must be tight to work .
Next turn the vacuum over and snap the hood back in place . The height adjuster tab may have fallen off when you removed the hood . If so this also just snaps in place .
The final step in changing the belt on your Hoover Elite vacuum is to reach down and turn the brush by hand before you turn the machine on . This is a good idea as the belt may have gotten pinched in between the plate or housing . This will save you burning your belt instantly.
The only other thing to remember is to check your belt to see if it is slipping every three to six months , average belt life. This can be accomplished by applying pressure to one corner of the front of the vaccuum with your foot. You will be able to tell if it is slipping or not.
