Tips on Ironing His Clothes

I state some tips on how to iron your husbands clothes properly.

Learn an efficient way to iron his shirt

You may have helpers at your beck and call but it's still worth the effort to learn how to iron your husband's clothes. Think of how proud he will be when he tells his mother that you actually know how to iron! Besides, you can never predict when an emergency comes and you're called upon to face the inevitable.

  • So, arm yourself with a good iron, a sturdy ironing board, and a bottle spray, and let's get on with it! But before you even start, here are some helpful tips:
  • It's better to iron clothes inside-out. This will eliminate those shiny "iron marks" that look unsightly on the outer side of your clothes. It is also easier to iron seams flat when the garment is turned inside-out. Finally, in case you burn the shirt, chances are it won't show up on front side.
  • Make sure the garment ironed has been washed clean. Never iron stained clothes because it makes stain marks more permanent.
  • Always check the garment tag for ironing instructions.
  • Never keep the iron surface on the fabric for more than a few seconds, or else you risk burning garment.
  • Always iron a shirt on a towel. This will pad the buttons and keep tem from getting damaged.

Here are steps to perfectly iron a shirt:

  • Set iron at the required temperature, depending on the fabric of the garment you are ironing.
  • Sprinkle or lightly dampen the shirt with water before ironing with a spray bottle or your iron;s steam function.
  • Unbutton the shirt all the way including the sleeves and collar.
  • Start on the collar backside and iron till smooth. Iron flat part of collar, then iron the folded collar to maintain its creases.
  • Next, iron the back of the shirt by laying it face down. Work your way along the shirt.
  • Once the back part is finished, work your way along each side of the shirt, by gradually rotating the shirt to each side of the ironing board. Whenever the shirt gets too dry while ironing, just spritz more water.
  • Next, the sleeves. Lay the shirt on the ironing board so that the sleeve is parallel to the board. Iron the both the front and back of each sleeve, making sure to follow the shirt's creases. The opened cuff of each sleeve should be ironed.
  • When done, hang up your shirt. Don't button it all up because the shirt will wrinkle. If you have to button, just do the second button down.

Ironing pants:

  • Start by ironing inside-out. Do the upper part of the pants, then the waist area and the crotch before moving down each pocket. Finish off with the cuffs.
  • Turn the garment right side out. Pull waist area on the pointed end of the ironin board to get a flat surface when ironing the front. Press the upper-front part of the pants.
  • Place pants parallel to the board lengthwise. Press each leg. Do not iron in place by ironing along the line.
  • Take the cuff of the leg you're pressing and bring it over towards the waistband. Iron the inner part of that leg. Do the same for the other pant leg.
  • Finally, iron the cuffs of both legs.

Remember to switch off the iron and unplug it once you've finished. Let it cool down for a few minutes before packing it away. If you have little kids at home, be extra careful that the iron is not within their reach.

Happy Ironing.
