Simmering Spice Bags
Simple Muslin Bags filled with spices to boil on your stove. Give your house the smell of fresh baking without the calories.
Making boiling bags filled with spices is easy and they make wonderful gifts. They can be as simple or as complicated as you like.
Parts
For the bags, scrap muslin or gingham, ribbon or string to tie shut.
Filler
All of the fillers are suggested, use your imagination and mix up what you think smells good.
- Star anise (Found at Asian stores)
- Pine needles (I just take fresh off the tree in my yard)
- Cinnamon Sticks (Found at Asian stores)
- Small piece of Vanilla bean
- Dried orange and or Lemon Peel (We put them in a mesh bag in the pantry when we eat oranges)
- Any other you can think of
Cut circles of your fabric about 8 inches across, if you use pinking sheers it gives a nice edge. After you have mixed the ingredients together place a handful in the center of your circle. Gather up the sides and tie closed with sting or ribbon. If you sew you can make small bags and tie them with ribbon, it makes a nice presentation.
If you are giving as a gift remember to include instructions on a small tag, and putting your name on it so they remember who gave it to them.
