Recycle Your Old Blue Jeans

You don't have to throw your favorite old blue jeans away, even though they are too raggy to wear. Turn them into something new.

Shorts.

Cut the legs off your old jeans, fray the ends...cool shorts for summer. Make short shorts, or knee length cut offs. Trim the pockets with lace, or leave with a raggy edge. Use fabric glue here is sewing isn't your thing.

Casual Bag.

Cut legs off the jeans, just below crotch. Turn inside out and stitch legs hole up. Oversew a few times to make it strong. Turn right way out again and thread a brightly colored bandanna through the belt loops to make a drawstring kind of closure. Makes a great bag.

Hot Pack.

Cut the leg off the old jeans and stitch up one end, fill with rice and stitch the other end up. Place in microwave for a couple of minutes to heat. You now have a hot pack which can be used to soothe aches and pains, or in bed on a cold night.

Fridge Pocket.

Fridge magnet. This makes a great pocket for coupons, or other small items. Carefully cut out the pocket from your jeans (including back and front). Glue trim along the top. (Choose whatever you fancy, lace, ribbon, something to match the kitchen, etc Then glue a fridge magnet to the back. You now have a denim pocket on your fridge.

File/Book Cover.

Book cover. Cut the legs and zipper off your jeans and cut down the seam so you can open the fabric out. Position an open file, or book on the fabric, with the pocket right way up at the front. Glue fabric to the book to form a cover. You now have a pocket on the front to hold pens, notes, etc.

Make a neck pillow. Stuff denim leg with fiber fill or old panty hose and stitch it closed at both ends. Decorate with markers or fabric paint if you want.
