Ingredients:
Small soft rubberized toys are the basis of this gift. I have found museum gift shops and party stores are a great source for these. As an example: I found small rubber frogs at a local natural museum that were under an inch and a half across. Remember that it must be rubber, hard toys do not work.
The other ingredient is natural glycerin soap, available at most craft stores. You will also need a microwave able bowl and recycled yogurt cups. I also found a wooden skewer to be helpful.
Putting It Together:
- Clean and dry the yogurt cups.
- Place the small toy in the bottom of the cup.
- Melt the soap base (Follow directions on package).
- Pour the soap over the toy; be sure to completely cover, if the toy floats use a small wooden skewer to keep it under the surface until it starts to harden.
- Let the soap set up.
- To remove the soap hold the cup under warm water (On the outside), this will loosen the soap from the form.
Packaging:
Let the soap set for a day or two before you wrap it. I use a clear food wrapping so the toy shows. Twist both ends (Like a Christmas Popper) and tie with ribbon. Use your imagination, remember that this is fun. If the child is older include a tag with details of the animal inside the soap.
Use:
As the soap is used more and more of the toy is revealed, this encourages your child to scrub more. Remember to supervise your child whenever in the tub or using small toys (They may be a choking hazard).
