In Year 7, for woodwork, our first project is to make a CD rack. This is how you make it:
- Cut out three pieces of wood with a saw.
- Draw a design for your CD rack on a piece of paper. When you're happy with the design, trace it on to a piece of paper and cut it out.
- Trace the design on to the wood with a pencil.
- Clamp one block of wood to your workbench and cut out according to the shape. Repeat this for all three.
- File the edges to make it feel and look smoother.
- Drill three holes into each of the pieces of wood with a drill. Use a template to mark it out.
- Pick one piece of wood to be the middle, sliding block and drill through the first holes with a slightly bigger drill piece.
- Cut three pieces of dowel wood and check if they fit in the holes.
- Paint and decorate both the dowel and wood pieces. Afterwards, paint a layer of clear coating to protect it. Leave to dry.
- Check to see if dowels still fit in holes, before putting a little bit of glue into them and applying pressure. Leave to dry.
- Make final adjustments and there you are, a CD rack to go!
thanks for the gr8 info! =D
