Crochet Stitches for the Fingerless Gloves
For maximum warmth, these fingerless gloves should be crocheted in a tight, close crochet stitch. Single crochet is probably the easiest crochet stitch to master. You can also make these fingerless gloves with the afghan stitch, or various fancy stitches with bobbles, popcorns, and cables. If you are not interested in maximum warmth, you can use looser stitches such as double crochet and ripple stitches.
Putting the Fingerless Gloves Together
The fingerless gloves can be crocheted in two different ways. The first is to work the stitches in a round. Start with the measurement of your forearm or wrist and begin to crochet the top of the glove. Keep working around and around until you reach just below the base of your thumb.
Then, you should continue the rounds up toward the bottom of your fingers. However, you must be careful to leave a space for your thumb to stick out. This can be accomplished by chain stitching across the gap, or simple leaving an opening that will be dealt with later.
You can also crochet the fingerless gloves in two long rectangles. They should also stretch from the wrist or forearm down to the base of your fingers. When they are completed, you can stitch both edges together, also leaving a space open for your thumb.
Finishing the Fingerless Gloves
The crochet fingerless gloves are now cozy tubes that cover your arms and hands from forearm to the base of your fingers. You can use them like this if you wish, though they are more like arm warmers than fingerless gloves.
To complete the gloves, you need to stitch between each finger. You can do this very simply by using your crochet hook and simply using two or three chain stitches between each finger. You can do the same thing to attach the crocheted pieces over the top of your thumb.
These warm, fingerless gloves are a perfect crochet project to undertake for the cold winter months. Using fancy or more traditional yarns, you can create stylish hand warmers that will not detract from the work you need to do.
