Chocolate Can Make You a Better Quilter

Chocolate can not only be inspiring, but it can also be a theme for an earth-friendly product. Read on for some helpful tips to create a chocolate-inspiring quilting party that is tasty and green!

Whether you're a beginner quilter or an expert, one thing is for sure: adding a little chocolate to the mix can really add some flavor. Having fun with quilting does not always mean that you have to choose fun patches or colors for your quilt; it can also mean getting together a few good quilting pals for an evening of a chocolate-inspired quilting party.

Here's what you'll need for your own chocolate quilting party:

  • Seats for enough of your friends (this number will vary based on the size of your home)
  • Several varieties of chocolate, such as a chocolate cake, chocolate sampler, etc
  • A project - either one that everyone can work on or people can bring their own
  • Fun stories to share

Let your friends know that you would like to plan a chocolate-inspired quilting party. If you are the type of quilter that gets together with friends regularly to quilt and gab, then chances are good that you and your friends will already have quilting projects to work on.

However, if your friends are beginner quilters (or even if they have never quilted at all), you may want to plan a project that everyone can do together.

Work on a Project Together

One fun chocolate-inspired quilting project for new quilters might involve creating handmade grocery bags. Spend a few dollars to purchase some chocolate-inspired fabric to go with the theme of your quilting party. You may even be able to find fabric with the Hershey® logo at your favorite fabric store.

Be sure to get a strong lining for your bags so that they can actually be used as grocery store bags. Extra strong thread and needles might also be wise.

If your friends a new to quilting, you may also want to pick up a few patterns for grocery bags. However, if your fabric store does not have a grocery store pattern, they are easy enough to make on your own using newspaper and a paper grocery bag as a sample. Keep in mind that when you create your own pattern, you should always leave about three extra inches of space around the pattern for cutting and a margin of error.

As you and your friends get to work creating your quilted grocery bags, pass around an assortment of chocolates for everyone to try. After everyone has completed their bags, be sure to have some chocolate goodies to throw in there for them as a take-away gift.

Alternatively, if everyone is working on their own quilting projects, then wrap some chocolates in a chocolate-inspired fabric that you can give to your friends as they leave. Giving chocolates away is an inexpensive way to make your chocolate quilting party fun, memorable and tasty.
