Tired of AOL sending you CD's? You could toss them into the trash... or make good use of them with these creative ideas!
Cut the CD's up into squares and fit them together to make a mosaic type mirror. This looks amazing as long as you make sure that all the cuts are clean and the pieces are carefully fitted together with no gaps.
Get hold of a quartz clock movement mechanism, install large clock hands on it and hang it on a wall. Use 12 CD's to mark the numbers.
Try standing a candle on an old CD. The light will be reflected and refracted and the effect can be quite magical.
Cut a CD in two and sharpen the straight edges. These make very good cutters for paper and they save you from blunting scissors on paper.
Use a piece of Play-doh or something similar to attach a CD with the shiny side forward to the top of your PC monitor. You now have a small mirror and will be able to see anyone coming in behind you.
String together CD's to make a mobile for a child's room. Place it in the center of the room so that the light reflects and moves around the walls.
Use a CD as a safe handbag mirror. It is stronger than a conventional mirror and very lightweight.
String CD's together to make wonderful window blinds that reflect light and are a fun addition to a child's room.
Paint old CD's with acrylic paint. After it is dry you can use it like a scratch board and scrape your own picture or design onto the disc. This can be very effective with black or dark red paint because it contrasts nicely with the silver on the CD.
Attach them to fences or posts, etc,. to act as reflectors. Try drilling small holes and screwing them into place, or use an exterior glue.
Widen the groove on either side of the hole in the CD and push in a coin. This can makes a spinning top toy that will amuse kids, young and old! Try spinning the disc on the side of the coin.
Hang CD's from fruit trees to scare birds away and stop them pecking at the fruit.

One word: Coaster! Put it in the mic for about 10 sec and it comes out all refracted. I've got a collection of about 30.
