Soy: A Complete Food for Health

The major production of soy comes from USA. All of us know that milk, meat and eggs are protein rich food, but soy can be an alternative to all of these.

Enjoy the variety of options possible with soy.

  1. Soy has all essential amino acids required for our body. Hence this is a complete protein food. Moreover, the protein in soy is similar to the protein in meat, which is very helpful for heart. That is the reason soy is recommended by American Heart Association.
  2. Soy is rich in Isoflavones, which prevent breast, uterus and prostate cancers. Taking soy in teen age reduces the risk of cancer.
  3. Omega-3-fatty acids present in soy are very helpful to heart
  4. Soy has more protein content than that of milk, pulses and meat. At the same time it yields more energy when compared to other pulses although the carbohydrate content is lower.
  5. Soy is rich in vitamin B and minerals. It contains Phytic acid, which is common in oils. Phytic acid retains all the essential minerals like magnesium, zinc, calcium and iron. Hence taking soy in the meals strengthens the bones and teeth.
  6. Soy is enriched with antioxidants and vitamin E
  7. The fiber in soy prevents all heart diseases
  8. Soy reduces the risk of bald head and acne
  9. Soy helps women who are in menopause

Varieties of Soy

  • Soy beans

Dried soy beans can be eaten by boiling them. These soy beans are rich in protein source and Isoflavones. When compared to other products of soy this variety has less taste.
  • Soy milk

Soy milk is an alternative to people who are intolerable to lactose in milk. Milk can be made by mixing water with the soy-bean powder that is readily available in the market or by grinding the seeds.
  • Soy chunks

Soy chunks contain 70% of protein and are very tasty. We can make these by mixing soy with other vegetables or meat.
  • Soy flour

Soy flour is more advisable when compared to other processed varieties. It has all nutrients present in soy beans.
  • Soy oil

Soy oil is very good for blood capillaries when compared to other saturated fatty acids. It is enriched with natural antioxidants.
  • Soy protein

There are two types of proteins. Concentrated protein (70%) and Isolated protein (90%). Concentrated protein can be mixed in milk or warm water and can be taken. It is easily digestible for children and is very beneficial for pregnant women and old people. Isolated protein can be mixed in juice or milk or can be sprinkled directly on bread and curries. Soy protein is rich in vitamins and minerals.
  • Soy tofu

Soy tofu is rich of protein, vitamin B complex and calcium.
  • Soy sauce

Soy sauce can be used in noodles. It is full of vitamins and minerals.

Other varieties like soy yogurt, cream and cheese are also available in the market. Did you see how many benefits are there with soy products? So why wait? Include your most favorite variety of soy in your menu right away.

As someone who has lived in Japan for a long time, I take great issue with #8 - preventing baldness and acne. There are plenty of bald Japanese men (and many women with thinning hair - more so than in western countries) as well as a a lot of people with acne. In fact, "nikibi" (acne) is a significant problem, even among adults. There's a large industry designed to fight this problem.

Given that the Japanese consume copious amounts of soy, you'd think there'd be nary a pimple nor a bald head among them but I'm betting that the statistically suffer these problems no less than countries where soy is not consumed regularly.

It makes me wonder how many of the other items in this list are simply re-purposed rumors and old wive's tales.

I was wondering if this is what is called as reading between lines.... what i have written is "It REDUCES the RISK of baldness and acne" Both Baldness and Acne are mainly controlled by genes and partially by environment. What I wrote actually means that the environmental impact on baldness and acne can be fought using soy. But I never meant that soy can actually cure them. If someone is genetically destined to be bald, there is actually no way they can escape it. And in a similar way, no product in that "large industry" against acne can cure them if the sufferer is genetically encouraging P.acnis bacteria to grow on their skin.

Your argument sounds to me something like this: Its a known fact that smoking increases the risk of lung cancer, but that doesnt mean that people who dont smoke never get lung cancer or that all the people who smoke get lung cancer.... Now its ur turn to decide whether or not to believe what is written, or whether or not to actually THINK before writing any comments.

How I wish people actually.....

Soy gives me TERRIBLE acne. (So does dairy - I no longer eat either.) Anyone struggling with breakouts should try giving it up for a month and see if they see any improvement.
