When it comes to cooking, there are hundreds of people telling you what to eat and how to eat it - well, at least how to cook it. It is about time it is discussed sensible, which what I set out to do in this quick article about healthy cooking. In this I will discuss the issues of health that other people bring up and move toward fast food. With a hint of media input, for the irony of this article being a part of the media's input on health and cooking.
The issues that we can get from poor cooking, unhealthy cooking and purely just bad food are endless. With someone telling us about a new ingredient that is in our food everyday, we will soon not be able to eat anything. Stewart Hare (2007) talks about the harmful foods in his book, Harmful Foods: What Not To Eat and mentions plenty of different cancers that are now said to be due to certain ingredients we eat. So we see that the issue is with what we eat in any accordance of what these people are suggesting. However, is it really this that is the problem or is it really these people trying to scare us into a tiny hole of not eating? In my opinion, this is just as big of an issue with our current sense of health in society as what the people are saying.
Then we can see that if we do eat, then are we eating the right way? There are a variety of ways people suggest to eat. Little and often strikes me first as the suitable way to begin this puzzle, but does it suit people to actually do? Other people have said eat three proper meals a day and then all is going to be well. Is this true? Due to the quantity of people advising on this who do you listen to? So many questions, yet at the end of these set of question is the answer that we all knew would have to be the case, else I would be just another voice in the crowd of confusion. Find your way; it depends on what your life consists of. If you cannot eat little and often, then as long as you are getting those three decent meals a day, you will stay healthy. (Dependant on what you are eating is healthy obviously.) If you had three "fast food restaurant" meals for your daily intake of nutrition, it may become apparent that you are not healthy. However, if you are hungry and you have eaten that really good meal that was supposed to get you through the day, in that case you will need to locate a new solution. Possibly you may have a drink to fulfil your hunger, and if that does not satisfy you it will need a different solution. If you realise that the hunger is not true hunger, but you feel that sensation for different reasons, then you will work out your own solution.
If we ate little and often and you still feel hungry after that meal we should question why. If our meal was a small something from a fast food place, then perhaps that is why. How satisfying is that food for your stomach? Alternatively if you cook a meal that can be eaten cold as well, subsequently you could find a snack is available without causing any havoc to your gas bill or your health. There are a lot of people that support these chains too much, and do not manage to see a cooker for a long time. Everyone needs the talent to cook at least a few decent meals and not rely on a chip shop or kebab store. It is most definitely necessary to become healthy and not try to get that health through walking to the chip shop. In recent news, the government of the U.K have decided that one way to assist the countries' health is to reduce the amount of holes in salt shakers in chip shops. One comment made by a radio presenter on BBC Radio Two on the week of 7th July 2008 was that if it necessary to reduce the amount of holes, perhaps they are going there too often.
Media has had a major impact on our eating habits. If the media didn't publicise the fact that this medical genius now states that this is a true fact, and in which case we would not know they said it unless we really thought it worthwhile to find out for ourselves. To focus on news, we can tell when the news is slowing when they have to scare us with some scientific discovery of what else can give us cancer. It may well be true that it can, but we cannot stop eating everything. Therefore balance is needed, but we would have had that balance at a better rate before that statement was made. Why you may ask? This is because as soon as the advertising companies see the scare is being set in they jump onto the heightened issue with their new product that does not have it in. An example is with Omega-3 when it came out that it was very good for us, we may well have been eating it anyway. Why do we need to know that it is in the food? It is only going to put us off our natural balance that we had. Many years back they did not know these facts and they were a lot healthier.
In conclusion, we need to stay healthy. We can do that by ignoring all these people that advice on what to eat and how to cook, but keep in mind that we are after a decent balance of healthy meals that best suits ourselves. The media assist the marketing companies to scare us into buying certain foods. The need for a string self mind over the food you eat is important. The most important time to be strong minded when it comes to cooking or eating is to you. Do not be tempted by the bad and unhealthy food choices that surround you.
