There are all types of sauces. You can use many of your baby's freezer cubes as a basic baby sauce with the pastina or couscous. Some of these could be butternut squash freezer cubes with ball pasta, green bean freezer cubes with couscous pasta etc. Until nine months, you can give the basic freezer cubes with pasta. Other sauces that you can make are more of the typical sauces that you may find in restaurants. You can start to give your baby these sauces when he or she is used to eating combined meals usually ten months is a good age to start serving these combined sauces with pasta. Some babies like pasta with no sauce at all. Others are quite content having only butter and parmesan cheese on their pasta. Try everything! You may find that your baby does not like spaghetti with meat sauce. Well, funny enough, your baby may like meat sauce but may not like the sauce with that type of pasta. He may like meat sauce with couscous. Generally, when a baby does not eat something we automatically assume that the baby does not like it, and we decide not to give it to the baby again. Every baby is different, just as you and I may not like our pasta the same way, a baby may not either. We have to experiment with different textures of pastas with different types of sauces or no sauce or sometimes only sauce.
Here are a few questions that we can ask ourselves:
Is it a new taste?
Most babies need about ten tries before we say that they like or dislike the food. They need time and repetition to get used to the new taste.
Have we tried only one type of pasta with this type of sauce?
Sometimes the baby dislikes the texture or shape of the pasta. There a many different textures in pasta. Even though, your baby can only have tiny pasta at this age, you can finely chop or blend big pastas for your baby for a different texture. Some babies like the tiny bolt pasta. This type of pasta has ridges and looks like bolts. This pasta has texture to it. Some babies prefer couscous because it is a tiny ball.
Does my baby like the sauce?
You can try to give the sauce by itself, with a mashed potato, or with fresh bread. Some babies just do not like pasta.
