Nine Unusual Fishes You Should Prepare for Your Next Meal

Do you have an urge to dig into the sea and have a catch of some unusual fish? Would you like to taste some unusual fish in your next meal? The list below shows nine different fishes that you should never forget to buy/catch for your next meal.

  1. Sea Horse:

The little sea horse often swims head-up in a very unfishlike way. The male sea horse has a pouch on its underside in which it carries the eggs the female lays, until they hatch.
  2. Black Swallower:

The black swallower is a tiny deep-se fish. This fish eats other fish, and often swallows a fish much bigger than itself. Both its mouth and its stomach can stretch enormously.
  3. Swordfish:

A full-grown swordfish may weigh 1,100 pounds and be 15 feet long. The sword, which gives this fish its name, may be more than a yard long and strong enough to pierce a small boat.
  4. Sailfish:

The sailfish has a sword, but this fish is much smaller than a swordfish. Not many sailfishes weigh more than 200 pounds. The sailfish is one of the fastest fishes, and one of the most beautiful.
  5. Ocean Sunfish:

The Ocean sunfish is often called the headfish, for it is almost all head. A full-grown headfish my weigh up to 2,000 pounds as one would guess from its shape, the ocean sunfish is not at all a fast swimmer.
  6. Electric Eel:

Several fishes can give electric shocks to any enemy attacking them. The fish that gives the most powerful shocks to its enemies is the electric eel of South America. Its shock can stun a horse.
  7. Angler:

Anglers get their name from the "fishing rods" they carry around on their heads. The angler pictured lives in the deep sea. The "bait" on its fishing rod is luminous.
  8. Archer Fish:

The archerfish of Asia gets its name from the strange way in which it catches its food. It "shoots" the insect it eats. Its arrow is a stream of water, which it shoots out of its mouth.
  9. Climbing Perch:

A climbing perch is not as "lost" out of water as a fish is supposed to be. The little fish of Asia has a way of holding water around its gills so that it can stay out of water for some time.
