How to Use the Pomegranate to Super Charge Your Recipes

The pomegranate has really taken off in popularity as more people discover its unique flavor and health benefits. Here's how to use this remarkable fruit in your kitchen.

Pomegranates have rapidly become the darling of the world of super fruits. No wonder with all the amazing health benefits that have been attributed to these sweet and colorful fruits. While pomegranates are tasty on their own, there are a variety of ways to use them to add their flavor to other dishes. This will not only boost the antioxidant power of your diet but will also please your taste buds. Here are some ways to add pomegranate to your diet:

Use the Juice

Have you ever tried a glass of fresh pomegranate juice over ice? The taste is heavenly and a nutritious break from soft drinks and other empty calorie beverages, although you may need to add a little sweetener if you're accustomed to sugary drinks. Try adding the juice to freshly brewed green, white, or black, tea for a unique fruity flavor. When you drink tea and pomegranate juice together you're getting a powerful dose of health boosting biochemicals. For a very grownup drink, mix pomegranate juice with a little vodka along with soda and a squeeze of fresh lime. This is a satisfying drink to relax with on the back porch when the weather turns warm. How about a nutritious lunch time shake made from pomegranate? Add pomegranate juice, milk, and protein powder to your blender along with other fruits of your choice (banana works well). Spoon in a little sweetener and ice before blending. You'll have a delicious quick lunch to meet the demands of a busy day. Add a little pomegranate juice to your favorite soups to boost their nutritional value and give additional flavor. You can also add pomegranate to conventional smoothie recipes to make them even more satisfying and delicious.

Use the Seeds

You don't want to waste the seeds of the pomegranate fruit when there are so many ways to use them. Pomegranate seeds make a tasty and colorful addition to fresh salads. Just sprinkle them on liberally to enjoy their fruity flavor and texture. How about adding them to a carton of yogurt or sprinkling them on your morning breakfast cereal? You'll be adding nutritional punch and great taste at the same time. The next time you make fresh chicken salad, add some pomegranate seeds for extra crunch and texture. Want to make your ice cream healthier? Sprinkle vanilla ice cream with pomegranate seeds or sprinkle the seeds over a bowl of fresh fruit. Pomegranate seeds also make a colorful and attractive garnish when sprinkled on a serving plate.

These are just a few of the many pomegranate ideas that turn your culinary creations into something healthy and delicious. Why not get a fresh pomegranate from your local supermarket and experiment a bit? You'll be doing your health and your taste buds a favor.
