Meat is often the most expensive component of your grocery bill. In this article, I would like to share with you how to save money on groceries when buying meat. These ideas include: cutting your own meat, buying less expensive cuts of meat, and avoiding processed meat.
Cut your Own
One way that I save money when buying meat is by looking for opportunities to cut my own meat. Often, grocery stores will sell whole cuts of pork or beef such as round or chuck. These whole cuts of pork or beef are often priced 50% less than similar meat that is already cut into individual portions.
Buy less Expensive cuts of Meat
Another way to save money when buying meat is to buy less expensive cuts of meat. When buying beef, look for eye of round roasts rather than sirloin roasts. You can often save over 50% by buying these lower priced cuts of meat. When buying chicken, legs and thighs are often priced 75% to 90% less than chicken breasts.
Avoid Processed Meat
Bacon, salami, and other processed ready to eat meats are often a convenient choice at the grocery store. However, they can also be an expensive choice. Instead of buying processed meats, buy fresh meats and invest some time in learning some interesting and tasty recipes.
