Eight Ways To Make Your Rice Tastier Than Ever

Do you know the right way to cook rice?

How many of you know how to cook rice properly? Cooking rice might seem to be the easiest task in the kitchen, but it's also easy to turn rice into mush. Here's how to make your grains tastier and fluffier.

Rinse

No matter what type of rice you use, it is important to rinse the grains thoroughly before cooking. This will help reduce the starch content once the rice is cooked.

Soak

Soaking rice in cold water before cooking it will give the rice a softer, fluffier texture.

Stay Away from Salt and Butter

If you are cooking plain unflavored rice, avoid adding butter or salt to your pot. This will ruin the naturally sweet taste of the rice.

Don't Use Stale Rice

If you fine that your rice is taking a longer time to cook than usual, check to see haw old your bag of rise is. Old grains take a longer time to cook and will lose their flavor. Keep your rice fresh. If you consume small amounts, buy small bags to ensure freshness.

Leftover

The best thing to do with leftover rice is to whip up simple fried rice. The grainy cold rice from the fridge makes the dish tastier.

Long Grain

Long grain rice tastes better that short grain, so opt for the longer grain variety when cooking.

Use the Right Amount of Water

Too much or too litter water can ruin your port of rice. Be sure to add just the right amount. For every one cup of rice, use 1 ½ cups of water.

Leave to Cool

After the rice is cooked, leave the cover on the pan, remove it from the head, and left stand for five to ten minutes. Then fluff the rice with a fork and serve. This will make the rice nice and fluffy.

Thank you for the information. I have been staying away from long cooking rice and using instant because mine always turns out sticky. I am bookmarking this page and sending it to friends. This will make things much easier in the future.

Great article.

i want starch (or gluten or whatever makes it sticky),so never rinse my rice, and where do you think the vitamin additives are?
you may want to rinse rice sold in 100 sacks from who knows where because they may contain up to 5% dirt. but i buy a 5 lb bag of short grain rice and it's always clean.

i just had to respond to another "know it all" dumbass advice piece like this drivel.

Marvin...

I too, just have to respond to another "dumb ass"...people than run their mouth when they don't have a clue.

If you would get someone to read the above information to you, you will find that it was not directed to people that want to eat STICKY rice...any dumb ass can cook STICKY rice...the article was written to those that want to have fluffy, separate grains of rice.

As someone who has been cooking Basmati rice for many years, the above instructions to wash the rice in cool water until it runs clear, then soak it in cold water for 30 minutes prior to cooking, is exactly what one must do to achieve a fluffy rice.

You carry on with your "short grain sticky rice" and leave the cooking to adults.

I also add in some loose jasmine tea to my rice, the subtle flavors of the tea soak into the rice, and the leaves taste nice too!
