Eggs: A Gourmet Connection

Poach them, bake them, fry them up, lift them to new heights. The possibilities are endless, considering the eggs’ gourmet connection.

They are the heart of soufflés, custards, meringues, mousse, crème brulee, and more. Eggs are so versatile, they work beautifully in dressings and sauces, also. And the very best news, they are as economical as they are chocked full of protein and vitamin D.

Recipes such as quiches, statas, soufflés, and omelets require different approaches to cooking eggs. The least time consuming of these egg dishes is the omelet. It simply requires that the eggs and milk be whisked together with dashes of your favorite spices and diced vegetables. Omelets cook in less than 5 minutes in a skillet. Voila, you have got breakfast (or lunch or supper).

Other egg based dishes make for more filling luncheons and dinners, even if they do require more time. A strata calls for bread slices soaked in an egg mixture as long as overnight and baked in the oven later. Soufflés are an especially savory egg recipe, as are quiches. Both contain between 4 to 6 eggs, cheeses, and veggies. Quiches and soufflés constitute a hearty entrée served piping hot from your oven.

It is important to note that some cholesterol in the body is necessary for the insulation of nerve fivers, maintaining cell walls, and producing vitamin D, hormones, and digestive juices. Eggs contain dietary cholesterol, which , if consumed in healthy moderation, is just fine for a hear healthy diet.

These Tips Can Help you Cut Back Fat and Calories:

Add egg whites to whole eggs to stretch protein and reduce fat. Egg whites contain greater amounts of important vitamins, as well as folic acid and riboflavin.

Use a nonstick skillet and vegetable (or olive) oil instead of butter to fry eggs.

Use Canadian bacon in place of smoked strip bacon and turkey sausage in place of pork sausage.

Use reduced fat cheeses.

Eating good fats and good carbs need not be limiting. Use the yummiest dishes, such as omelets and frittatas, to plan a leisurely breakfast party. Called “nature's most perfect food,” eggs aren't limited to the breakfast hour. How many luncheons or evening parties have you been to that featured hard boiled eggs, baby quiches, or egg desserts. One thing is for certain, we have all enjoyed having a little egg on our plate.
