One way to alter the mundane routine is to create sandwiches without bread. Adults as well as children like variety and a breadless sandwich can be a welcome change from the ordinary sandwich.
Here are a few breadless sandwich ideas to get your creativity started. Be resourceful, imaginative, and inventive.
Instead of bread, use rice cakes.
As filling for salt free rice cake sandwiches you can use:
- pimento cheese
- tuna salad
- chicken salad
- peanut butter
- fruit flavored cheese spread
- cream cheese, various flavors
- cheddar cheese spread
- put a small layer of Ranch dressing on each side of rice cake and use a thin slice of tomato as filling
You can also use flavored rice cakes and experiment with various fillings to find your favorites. One of my favorites is White Cheddar with tomato. Pizza sauce spread on a white cheddar rice cakes with mozzarella place in between the cakes is another of my favorites.
Instead of bread, use lettuce leaves.
Using a large lettuce leaf add one of the following fillings:
- Chicken salad
- tuna salad
- pimento cheese
- thinly sliced ham, turkey, roast beef, or a deli meat of your choice
- put a roll of sting cheese inside lettuce leaf, add a small amount of your favorite salad dressing and roll it up
- pepperoni slices and mozzarella make a good filling for a lettuce leaf sandwich
