Why Plastic Bottles Need Warning Labels

As consumers we must beware of where the water is stored, if at all possible. It is surprising that the FDA has not called for more strict regulations.

It is amazing how little most companies care about their end users. Apparently, plastic bottled water containers have poisonous fumes that can seep into the pure water when left in a hot car for 8 hours or so. As consumers we must beware of where the water is stored, if at all possible. It is surprising that the FDA has not called for more strict regulations. There should be warning labels for all drinks that use plastic, especially bottled water ones due to the huge popularity. Kids are likely to be unaware of the risks, and may try to refrigerate old bottles that are actually poisonous to consume. Luckily, the fumes are not in high doses that kill suddenly, but they certainly contribute to the risks involved. For instance, this could lead to possible long term health problems. However, there is good news about recycling plastic bottles.

Chemical Engineers developed a way to break down plastic bottles made from polyethylene terephthalate -- or PET, and recycle it back into high value uses like more soda bottles, water bottles, beer bottles. The process is called depolymerization. The breakthrough in this process is to be able to go from chips of this plastic to the recycled material in about five minutes.

Studies are still being conducted about the full extent of the problems that arise from using plastic bottles. One thing is certain; we must take protective measures on our own. Staying informed of the latest developments is important to make sure that we live healthy long lives. It is unfair to keep some people uneducated about the risks of consuming water. It should not take any research; it should be readily available clearly on the bottle. Putting warning labels, like the hot coffee ones will do just fine.
