The GE Frontload Washer

Are you tired of washing machines with agitators and clothes wrapping around them? Try a GE frontload washer with no agitator.

A washing machine with an agitator can last a long time if it is a good one. Washing machines are not made as good as they use to be made. The knobs are plastic and can wear out so quickly. You can not put as many clothes in a washing machine as you wish without clothes wrapping around the agitator. When the timer wears out, the timer will not click and go to the next step. Your machine will not drain or spin. You will have to pay someone to fix the washing machine and replace the parts. It might cost you a lot of money. So you might as well buy a whole new washing machine.

My washing machine was a Whirlpool with an agitator. It lasted me up to seven years. But my next new washing machine is a heavy duty GE frontload washer.

Washer Features

  • GE is a great brand name that has been around for years. I trust GE. The cycle knob is very light weight and it lights up when you turn on the machine. You will see your wash cycles. The wash cycles are for specific types of wash loads. You have whites, colors/normal, stain wash, easy care, active wear, delicates, handwash, speed wash, drain and spin, and rinse and spin.
  • On the washer, there is a soil level which increases or decreases the wash time to remove different amounts of soil. You can choose between extra light, light, normal or heavy soil.
  • The 3rd feature the washer has is spin speed. The machine has a high speed, medium speed, low speed, and no spin. Higher spin speeds remove more water from clothes and will help reduce dry time.
  • The 4th feature that the washer has is a wash temp. That is where you adjust to select the proper water temperature for the wash cycle. You have sanitize, hot, warm, cold, and tap cold.
  • The 5th feature that the washer has is a start/pause. This button will stop the washer and unlock the door.
  • The 6th feature that the washer has is a cycle signal.
  • The 7th feature is a prewash which is an extra wash before the main wash.
  • The 8th feature is an extra rinse.
  • The 9th feature is a delay start. You can delay the start of a wash cycle for up to 12 hours.
  • The 10th feature is a lock. You can lock the controls to prevent any selections from being made. Children can not accidentally start the washer by touching pads.
  • The last feature is a dispenser drawer. That is where you can add your laundry products. It has a prewash compartment, detergent compartment, liquid bleach compartment, and a fabric softener compartment.

Advantages and Disadvantages of the Washer

There are advantages and disadvantages of the frontload washer. The advantages are you don't have to worry about an agitator. There is plenty of space and room. You can add more clothes. The timer is digital and you don't have to worry about wearing out a knob.

The disadvantages are you cannot open the door while the clothes are washing like you could with a washer with a lid on the top to open. The washer could rock while it is spinning. You will need to adjust the front leveling legs up or down to ensure the washer is resting solid. The machine is too heavy to move. Make sure your floor is level or not damaged.

Washing Detergent

Tide He liquid detergent is the best washing detergent for the GE frontload washer. It is high efficiency laundry detergent for a high efficiency washer. Using regular detergents can create too much suds in a front-loading washer. See the details at Tide and visit GE.

I had to buy a new washer six months ago and ended up with an agitator washer and dryer! It was the best deal at the time but I really thought the agitator free ones were the way to go!

Just thought I would weigh in. I have a top loading and am always going into it to add things(which is convenient). I don't think I would do well with the front loading however I have had trouble with the agitator a number of times. Clothing was getting stuck underneath the bottom of it, I had quite a struggle freeing a few items. Anyway thanks for the great info if I ever am in the market to purchase.

Okay Francie. The frontloader takes some getting use to. My machine is kind of unbalanced, but I found out the more clothes I added the less it would shake. I love the frontloader because you can add more clothes and it should last a long time. It's a heavy duty washer.
