Shopping can be stressful. When shopping for food, clothes or other necessities many have to deal with the rudeness of other customers as they push past people without so much as an "excuse me" or they cut in front of others in the queue. Read on to find out how to be a more considerate shopper.
Express Means Express
How often do you stop by your local supermarket for just a carton of milk and bread but as you head over to the express lane, you find someone with $150 worth of groceries ahead of you? This can be difficult to cope with. After all, express should mean "express". To show that you are a considerate shopper, make sure that you abide by your supermarket's express lane policy. If the express lane is limited to customers with 20 items or less, then do not head for that line unless you only have a few items to pay for. The only exception would be if a cashier personally asked you to come to the express lane because the other lanes were busy. Abiding by this rule will help you to maintain good relations with other customers and shop workers.
Return Your Shopping Basket or Trolley
Once you have loaded all of your groceries into your car, return the shopping basket or trolley to its rightful location, whether that is at the nearest drop off point from your car or inside the shop. It is rude to just leave the shopping basket or trolley wherever you see fit and it creates more work for the supermarket employees who must then hunt down the baskets and trolleys for other customers to use. Leaving the shopping basket or trolley in the middle of the car park is also a hazard. A gust of wind can easily blow a trolley into someone else's car, causing a lot of damage.
Allow Elderly and Infirm Ones to Go Ahead of You
The elderly and infirm do not always receive the respect that they deserve from society. They are often overlooked when they go shopping or treated as a nuisance that must be quickly dealt with. But if you are standing in the queue to pay and you notice an elderly or infirm person behind you, it would be an act of kindness to allow them to go ahead of you. Some elderly or infirm ones find it difficult to stand for long periods of time and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to complete their shopping trip more quickly.
It does not take a lot of effort to show more consideration for other shoppers when you go shopping. But it does require some forethought. Next time you go shopping, be sure to show more consideration for other shoppers. It will help make your shopping trip a more pleasant experience.
