Having glasses can completely change your look (remember Superman and Clark Kent?) but why not look good? Forget “four-eyes” It's time to give those with 20/20 vision something to be jealous about:
Frame Selection Tips
Selecting the right frame is crucial, do not underestimate this decision, they can be seen by everybody (except the blind) every time they look at you. But fear not, with a little thought, these tips and loads of trying on I am sure you will find the perfect pair.
Size
The frame should remain in proportion to the shape and size of your face. You don't want to go for massive frames if you have a golf ball sized head. Shape
Try and go for a shape that will complement your features, if you have a rounded head try some angular frames, if you have square head circular frames should soften your features and if you have a pentagonal head God help youFit
The arms should bend with the shape of your ears, rims shouldn't be higher than your eyebrows (especially when you are surprised) and no wider than your temples. If the glasses are touching your cheek they do not fit! Style
Try not to get drawn in by the latest passing fashions especially if you are considering a costly purchase, you want it to stand the test of time. Perhaps a classic frame would be more suited? Colour
Stick to darker shades of colour as it's the best way to inject some individuality (most are neutral shades) without having luminous yellow frames that are not suitable for formal occasionsImprovements
The right pair of glasses can improve the look of your face. If you have a long nose try a low-set bridge, short nose? Try a high-set bridge to add the appearance of length.
Care Tips
Once you have found that perfect pair, try hard to keep them. Follow these simple tips and you can avoid having to re-mortgage your house to pay for a replacement pair:
- Always handle with care, ensure you remove your glasses with both hands so as not to damage and bend the frame
- Clean the lenses - when cleaning your lenses make sure to use a specifically designed cloth. No matter how “clean” your used hankie looks it will scratch!
- Use the case - As simple as this sounds, it is a surprisingly difficult step to follow. Fight the urge to put them on the floor as all glasses have built in foot magnets.
- Get any adjustments/repairs done at an opticians - I know you got some power tools for Christmas but this does not mean you can fix everything
