This is a supplement for the article I published earlier.
I was shopping at The Pottery Barn the other day when I stumbled on the solution for more storage in our small apartment. I found these pretty cushioned storage cubes. They are about 14"by 14", have a nice basket weave and are very sturdy. I bought four of them and they fit perfectly, two on top of two in our short hall way. In fact I would have room for two more to sit on the floor beside the others, and the next time I am at the Pottery Barn I might pick up more and take some of the baskets out of the bedroom.
I put all my sewing projects and sewing supplies in these four boxes. When children visit, I put the cushioned cubes out in the living room and they make fine seating for the children. They are sturdy enough too, or adults.
I also bought some of those plastic hooks you stick to the wall that hold up to four pounds. I stuck them behind our bedroom door, and hung purses, light decorative scarves, necklaces and bracelets on those. When the door is open they are out of sight and when the door is closed they add a colorful decorative touch.
I have another idea I plan to do. I saw a book case in the Ikea catalog that is 4' wide and 7' tall that I am going to buy soon. I think it will hold all our books and brick a brac. I plan to place it on the living room wall where we have the two low bookcases. It will take up no more floor space, and will be wonderfully spacious. We can then move all the smaller book cases out of the apartment. Our only problem is, we will have to put it together and we both have two thumbs and absolutely no skills at doing this kind of thing.
I am always looking at new and better ways to make our apartment living even more enjoyable. I will let you know as I go along, how we are doing and hopefully it will be a help for you too.
