In order to live contently in a small space you have to do some creative decorating. Simplicity is a key to living comfortably in a small home.
Furnish your small home with multi-purpose furniture such as storage ottomans.
Use trunks for tables and store out of season items inside the trunk. Baskets are good
places to store items and there is an endless array of styles to choose from. Picnic
baskets are great storage units and they look attractive when stacked as a display.
Hooks of all sizes are quite useful in a small space.
A message board/cork board takes little space and can be very useful. It eliminates
the clutter of small pieces of paper lying around. Telephone numbers, grocery lists,
a list of things to do and much more can be posted on the board.
Take advantage of small areas for shelves, especially in the bathroom.
Keep in mind you do not need a lot of different things to do one task. Don't
fall into the trap of purchasing lots of gadgets that you will seldom or never use. v
Use mirrors to make the rooms look larger.
Designate a small area as an office area. Find an organizer that best fits your need.
Keep envelopes, stamps, pens, tape, a stapler, paperclips, and whatever else you
frequently need in the organizer.
Avoid the accumulation of clutter. Don't let newspapers pile up. Recycle. Donate
magazines and books that you have read to libraries, nursing homes, hospitals, or
elsewhere. Sort your mail daily. File what needs to be kept. Dispose of the
remainder.
Don't overlook the option of using open space under things for storage. Invest in
some under-the bed- storage containers. The space under a coffee table or end table
can be used to stack books that you can't part with.
